Soap Bar Care Guide - How to Make Soap Last Longer

There’s one key principle here - soap LOVES air. Here's how we maximize our soap's air time to get the most life out of each bar:

1. Proper Storage

  • Keep Soap Dry Between Uses: One of the most important things to extend the life of your soap bar is to allow it to dry completely between uses. Soap that stays wet for too long can dissolve quickly, shortening its lifespan.

  • Use a Soap Dish with Drainage: Opt for a soap dish or tray with good drainage. This helps water to drain away from the soap bar, allowing it to dry faster and reducing the chance of it becoming mushy.

  • Avoid Direct Water Flow: Store your soap bar away from direct streams of water (like the showerhead or sink tap) to prevent it from being constantly exposed to water, which can cause it to break down faster.

2. Rotate Between Two Soap Bars

  • Alternate Bars: If you have two soap bars, rotate them so one can dry thoroughly while you use the other. This is a great way to preserve the quality of both bars. Soap needs time to harden and dry out, and by alternating, you avoid constantly using the same bar in a damp environment, which can lead to premature wear.

  • How to Rotate: When one bar is in use, keep the other someplace it won’t be used, with decent air circulation. Depending on how much your household typically uses soap, rotate these bars so that each regularly has a chance to dry out.

3. Keep Soap Out of Humid Environments

  • Store in a Dry Place: Humidity can break down soap more quickly. Keep your soap bars in a dry environment, away from excessive moisture. If you're storing a soap bar in your bathroom, ensure it's in a well-ventilated area to prevent it from getting too damp.

4. Cut Large Bars Into Smaller Pieces

  • Divide Large Bars: If you have a large soap bar, consider cutting it into smaller chunks. This can help reduce the amount of soap exposed to air at once, making it last longer and easier to use in smaller portions.

5. Use the Soap Properly

  • Don’t Over-Wet It: How much you wet your soap bar depends on where/how you’re using the soap. When using soap to wash hands, its often best to wet your hands and rub the bar onto wet hands. It prevents the need to put your bar under a stream of water, which will help to keep it dryer.

  • Don’t Overuse: A little goes a long way! Soap bars are highly concentrated, so you don’t need to use much each time. Use just enough to lather and clean.

6. Clean Your Soap Dish Regularly

  • Remove Soap Residue: Soap residue can build up in soap dishes, potentially causing the soap bar to become soft . Regularly clean the dish to remove any buildup of soap scum.

By following these tips, you can keep your soap bars in excellent condition and extend their lifespan.
